    As a flooring choice, curupixa is one of the least hard and durable woods. It is nearly identical in hardness to hard maple, about fifteen percent harder than red oak, is roughly eighty percent as hard as hickory or pecan, and is almost exactly three quarters as hard as santos mahogany’s ranking of 2200.

    Weight:
    Medium density wood, with density at 12% moisture content of 790 kg/m3 and green density of 1,210 kg/m3.

    Use:
    Interior joinery, Interior panelling, Light carpentry, Current furniture or furniture, components, Flooring, Stairs (inside), Turned goods, Wood-ware, Exterior joinery, Veneer for interior of plywood, Veneer for back or face of plywood, Cabinetwork (high class furniture), Sliced veneer.

    General characteristic:
    Heartwood brown to pinkish brown slightly distinct from the light brown sapwood. Slightly distinct growth rings, grain wavy to straight, texture fine, luster moderate and not distinctive odor.

    Working properties:
    Curupixa is easy to saw and work properly. This species holds both nails and glue well. This species sands fairly well and takes a good finish.

    Blunting effect: Fairly high
    Sawteeth recommended: Stellite-tipped
    Cutting tools: Tungsten carbide
    Peeling: Good
    Slicing: Good

    Drying and shrinkage:
    Air-dries rapidly with a tendency for moderate springing and slight to moderate checking. Volumetric shrinkage 0,51%; radial shrinkage 4,8%; tangential shrinkage 7,9%.

    Durability:
    Moderately resistant to white-rot fungi and very resistant to brown-rot fungi. Susceptible to dry-wood termites. reported to have no odor and air dries rapidly. Sapwood moderately easy to be preserved.
