Removing Stains and Odors Pets in Hardwood Floors
Concerning the urine stains and odors of your pets on a wood floor, you may try these tips. You either have odors only, or you have visible stains and odors. Whatever it is, hopefully it is worth a try.
Stick to these solutions to remove the urine stains:
For fresh pet stains, give it a try the simpler way first:
1. Scrub the area with white vinegar for removing the stain and the odor.
2. Use the warm water to rinse the stained area.
3. Blot the area dry with paper towels once again. Be sure to dry the area entirely. Surely you do not want to let any of the liquid remain for long and it can warp the area of the wood floor.
4. Apply a specialized stain and odor remover with bacteria and enzyme properties to the affected area to avoid any chances that your pet will find the area attractive again in the future.
For old pet stain, you can try this:
1. If you have stains that have been around long enough to have soaked down into the wood and sub-flooring, it means you need to sand the wood to find out the extent of the damage.
2. Sand the stained hardwood flooring until you reach a point that is not stained or if you find the stain is too deep. If the stain is deeper than the surface you’ll have to take out that section of the flooring. You may have to redo the entire hardwood floor depending on the extent of the damage.
3. When a stain has been left for several years the urine may seep into the sub- flooring or at least the odor. You can often treat these areas with commercial bleach which can remove the stain and odor from old pet stains, however it is a very sensitive solution and you need to have proper gloves and training.
4. If you have to resurface the floor you better use a shellac-based primer which will give you the results you’re looking for.
This step of removing stains provided by several products available:
